The Republic of Malawi proudly celebrated its National Day at Expo 2025, featuring a heartfelt address by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Eng. Vitumbiko Mumba, representing His Excellency President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera. The event highlighted the enduring friendship between Malawi and Japan under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” with Malawi’s sub-theme, “Empowering Lives.”
During his speech, the Minister expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan and the Expo organizers for providing a valuable platform to showcase Malawi’s potential. He emphasized the nation’s rich natural resources, hardworking population, and dedication to strengthening bilateral relations.
Hon. Eng. Mumba discussed several key points, including the long-standing diplomatic ties established in 1964 and significant economic collaboration in infrastructure and healthcare. He pointed out trade opportunities, noting that Malawi exports products such as sesame, coffee, tea, macadamia nuts, and tobacco to Japan while importing essential goods. This exchange promotes mutual economic growth and investment, as Malawi actively enhances its business environment through infrastructure development, special economic zones, and streamlined procedures for investors.
He concluded by inviting attendees to experience the vibrant culture of Malawi, promoting the nation as “The Warm Heart of Africa.” As the Malawian flag was raised, the commitment to global cooperation and friendship was reaffirmed, marking a significant milestone in the partnership between Malawi and Japan.
To further celebrate cultural exchange, the Malawi cultural troupe entertained guests with traditional dances, including Vimbuza, Beni, Gulewamkulu, Chisamba, and Manganje and others.
